Our Core Values and Mission Statement

Chaotic Good Improv believes in these core values:

  • Creativity is best cultivated when integrity, humility, and inclusion are emphasized.

  • Transparency and authenticity are foundations to building a successful improv troupe.

  • Creating a safe, supportive, and positive environment is fundamental to growing improvisational skills within the troupe.

  • An improv troupe cannot exist without promoting inclusivity among all people as acceptance is a key tenant of improvisation and the art of improvisation does not belong to us, but to anyone who would like to learn.

  • Improv has an inherent power to bring people together and serve as a positive influence in people’s lives. We as improvisers have an obligation to use improv to better our society through community involvement and outreach programs.

  • Entertaining audiences is a privilege that should not be taken for granted. We constantly strive to improve our craft, respect each other, and be a positive influence on our community.

Our Mission Statement:

Chaotic Good Improv strives to produce entertaining shows for our audiences, cultivate the art of improv, and maintain a positive connection to our community.

The Story Behind the Chaos

Chaotic Good Improv was born in the middle of a pandemic—chaos is in our DNA. Though many of us had performed together before (some for many years), we didn’t want that to end just because we couldn’t see each other in person. So we started doing virtual improv shows. These were more fun than even we expected, and kept us sane during lockdowns and tough times. We created CGI originally to just continue doing what we love—make people (and each other) laugh. We quickly found that we had also created a community of people who truly believe there is always room for one more at our gaming table. Once we were able to safely perform in-person shows, we connected with two amazing venues: East 59 Cafe in Lee Branch and Sidewalk Film Center+Cinema. It is such an honor to perform improv comedy, both in-person and virtually, and hope to see you at one of our future shows!

Our Venues

  • Sidewalk Film Center+Cinema

Located in the basement of the Pizitz Food Hall in Downtown Birmingham, Sidewalk is a great venue where you can grab dinner upstairs before the show, then enjoy snacks and a full bar while watching our side-splitting show!

  • East 59 Cafe at Lee Branch

Located down Highway 280 in the Lee Branch Shopping Center, the East 59 Cafe is a cozy spot to watch us make you laugh. There are plenty of eating options nearby for a pre-show meal, and of course caffeinated options at the cafe!

 FAQs

  • Short-form improv is a fast-paced style of improvisational comedy. It is usually in the form of improv games (think Whose Line is it Anyway?) where suggestions are taken from the audience at the start of each game. While we do some long-form improv, most of our shows are in the short-form style.

  • The easiest way would be to come to our shows (laughing helps too)! But you can also share our content on Facebook and Instagram, spread the word to your friends, or sport some of our awesome merch. You can also subscribe to our Twitch account for FREE with your Amazon Prime subscription.
